DESCRIPTION

NAME OF MEDICINE  :- Draksharishta

 CLASSICAL REFRENCE  :- Sharangadharsamhita-Rogadhikar

FORMULATION COMPOSITION  :-

Draksha (Vitis vinifera)-1 part, Water for decoction-Q.S. (as per text reference), Reduced to-Q.S. (as per text reference), Guda (Jaggery)-3.46parts, Dalchini (Cinnamum zeylanicum), Sukshamaila (Elettaria cardamum), Tej patra (Cinamum inners), Nagkeshar (Mesua ferrea), Priyangu (Callicarpa macrophylla), Marich (Piper nigrum), Pippali (Piper longum), Vidanga (Embelia ribes)-0.02 parts (each of the above ingredients), Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa)-0.05 parts.

Prepared and retained as per Asava-Arishta nirmana vidhi.

METHOD OF PREPARATION  :-

  1. Calculate the quantity of the drugs mentioned under DRAKSHARISHTA in AFI-I (1:20) and as per master formulary record of the pharmacy for the required batch and quantity.
  2. Accurately weigh the tested drugs from the raw material store, clean them and then pass through 20 and 30 mesh to discard foreign materials.Now again weigh the drugs and adjust their weight loss according to master formula.
  3. Clean the Pulveriser as per SCP (Standard Cleaning Procedure).
  4. Coarsely powder the drugs of the above mentioned Yog.
  5. Clean the wooden fermentor with hot and cold water repeatedly 5 to 6 times with nylon brush and proceed as per SCP & tag it with its status.
  6. The required quantity of water is taken in an iron vessel and fresh decoction of Draksha is prepared as prescribed in the formula. The decoction is then filtered and poured into another iron vessel and the required quantity of sugar/jaggery is then added in the decoction and allowed to cool. On cooling it is again filtered through the muslin cloth and the filtrate is shifted to the wooden fermentor.
  7. Fine powder of the drugs already prepared by coarsely grinding as mentioned in the formula, are added in the fermentor and the container is then covered with a lid tightly.
  8. Maintain the room temperature from 25°C to 40°C for few days (minimum 40 days or till the fermentation process is completed).
  9. Take  a sample for testing and after testing the batch for filling  ,filter the clear upper portion of the liquid rejecting the lower 10 litre of the liquid.
  10. Seal and label the liquid in well cleaned bottles as per GMP mentioned in D & C Act 1940 and the rules made there under.

THERAPEUTIC USE  :-

Increases appetite & an ideal tonic for patients suffering from anaemia. Also useful in patients suffering from recurrent infections of cough & cold and whopping cough.

ANUPAN  :-  

To be taken with equal quantity of water half an hour after meals twice daily or as directed by the physician.
